Benchmark replacement

A 1:1 alternative to ACEMATT® TS 100

Censil3851 is built to replace ACEMATT® TS 100 where you need extreme low gloss on hard, tactile surfaces — high-end waterborne plastic coatings and premium furniture finishes.

Quick answer

Which Censil grade replaces ACEMATT® TS 100, and how close is it?

Censil3851 runs at d50 8.5 – 9.0 μm against Evonik's published 9.5 μm for ACEMATT® TS 100, with surface area 250 – 280 m²/g against Evonik's published 250 m²/g (N₂). One difference is fundamental and worth knowing before you trial: TS 100 is an untreated thermal (pyrogenic) silica, while Censil3851 is wax-modified precipitated silica. Different manufacturing route, comparable matting target — so bench-trial at identical dosage before you scale up.

The verdict

Censil3851 runs at d50 8.5 – 9.0 μm against Evonik's published 9.5 μm for ACEMATT® TS 100, with surface area 250 – 280 m²/g against Evonik's published 250 m²/g (N₂). Different manufacturing route, comparable matting target — so bench-trial at identical dosage before you scale up.

Datasheet parity is the starting point, not the proof. A 1:1 replacement is confirmed on your own line: run the Censil grade at the same dosage as your current import, compare gloss at 60° and 85°, clarity on a dark panel, touch and can stability — then fine-tune dosage within ±0.3%. Typical evaluation cycle is 1–2 weeks, and we ship a free 2 kg sample with a 1:1 benchmark sheet for exactly this.

Frequently asked questions

TS 100 is a thermal silica and Censil3851 is precipitated. Can that really be a 1:1 replacement?

They are made by different routes, so treat the trial seriously rather than assuming. What you are matching is the finish: extreme low gloss with a hard, fine surface. Evonik recommends TS 100 at 1.5 – 4.5% on total formulation; Censil3851 is recommended at 1 – 4%. Start at your current dosage, compare gloss at 60° and 85°, then fine-tune.

How close are the specifications?

Particle size 8.5 – 9.0 μm vs 9.5 μm published; surface area 250 – 280 m²/g vs 250 m²/g (N₂) published. Evonik does not publish a pore volume for TS 100; Censil3851 is published at 1.6 – 1.8 mL/g.

Will Censil3851 hold up on dark substrates?

Grey cast and loss of depth on dark substrates is one of the five failure modes we see most often in Southeast Asian plants. Test on your actual dark panel with the free 2 kg sample — that is the only answer that counts.

Is this crystalline silica?

No. Censil matting agents are high-purity amorphous precipitated silica (SiO₂ ≥ 99% dry), with no crystalline silica. Standard industrial hygiene applies when handling fine powders; see the SDS.

What does switching cost, and what is the MOQ?

20–30% below imported pricing, factory-direct with no distributor margin. First orders are flexible at 500 kg to 1 ton rather than a full container.
